SITUATION:
The Mexico Business Center and the Tijuana Economic Development Corporation developed the First Annual InterAmerican Business Awards to celebrate cross border business and promote regional economic development. The goal of this event was to increase collaboration between the two cities’ political leaders on projects of regional concern. San Diego Mayor-Elect Jerry Sanders and Tijuana Mayor Jorge Hank Rhon co-hosted the event in the first meeting between the cities’ leaders in over a decade.
STRATEGY:
Hutchens PR developed the San Diego and Tijuana media strategy, promoting the event in through several means on both sides of the border. Hutchens PR also acted as the political liaison between San Diego Mayor-Elect Jerry Sanders and Tijuana Mayor Jorge Hank Rhon and coordinated the first meeting of the cities’ leaders.
RESULT:
The media relations resulted in editorial board support in San Diego and Tijuana. Television coverage on the day of the event for the op-ed was successful. The two political leaders in the region agreed to work together to make the San Diego/Tijuana region the greatest in the world. The event was standing room only and the audience consisted of leaders of some of the most prominent companies in the region. The support for this cross-border tribute was enormous and the first meeting between the leaders of the cities displayed the commitment and dedication that the leaders possess in making our region successful.
